Where the English-language jobs are
426 of the 812 are in Berlin and 183 in Munich; the next city, Hamburg, has 26. That is not a rounding error, it is the map: outside two cities, working in Germany means working in German. What the EU Blue Card asks of you in 2026
Three things. A degree Germany treats as comparable, which the next section covers. A contract of at least six months. And a salary of at least €50,700 gross a year, which is 50 % of the 2026 pension contribution ceiling of €101,400; the threshold moves every January because the ceiling does. Two groups get a lower bar of €45,934.20, or 45.3 %: shortage occupations, which by law include IT specialists, engineers, scientists and mathematicians, and anyone whose degree is less than three years old. IT specialists without a degree qualify at the lower threshold too, with at least three years of relevant experience in the last seven. The card runs four years. Permanent settlement is possible after 27 months, or 21 with B1 German, and in the first twelve months the authority can pause a change of employer for 30 days while it checks the new job.

What an Indian degree needs
Germany does not ask software engineers for formal recognition; that is for regulated professions such as medicine and teaching. It asks whether your degree is comparable to a German one, and it checks in two steps. First the anabin database: if your university and your degree type are listed with the right status, that is enough. If they are not, you need a Statement of Comparability from the ZAB, the Central Office for Foreign Education. It costs €208, is applied for online, and the standard processing time is three months, with faster handling for Blue Card applications. Start it before the job search, not after the offer, because a three-month wait after a signed contract is how start dates die.

The consulate step from India
The German missions in India take most national visas online through the Consular Services Portal, with an appointment at VFS for biometrics. Appointment supply is the bottleneck, not the paperwork: slots fill, and there is a waiting list. Book the moment you have a contract. Do not pay anyone to book for you; the portal is free, and a consultant cannot create slots that do not exist.
What a German salary means
€50,700 is the visa floor, not a market rate, and it gets misread in both directions. It is gross: tax, pension, health and unemployment insurance come off before anything reaches your account, and the official Brutto-Netto calculators exist for exactly this comparison, so run one before you convert to rupees and decide. What the deductions buy is real: public health insurance from the first day and a pension record that counts. And the reduced threshold is the one to plan around if your degree is recent, because it puts the card within reach of the junior salaries that Berlin startups actually pay.
What nobody mentions
First, 812 is 7.5 % of the German market. The other 92.5 % is advertised in German, and the fastest way to triple your options is B1 German, not a better CV. Second, the 88 listings that mention visas are the employers who have done this before. The other 724 English-language ads are open to you in principle, but the company may never have sponsored anyone, and you will be the one explaining the Blue Card to their HR. Ask in the first call.
