We are seeking talented and self-motivating master graduates with commitment to in-depth empirical studies on the topic of digital transformation in practice. The position will be affiliated with IDI's research group on Applied Information Technology (AIT). The fellowship will be part of our research on digital transformation from a sociotechnical perspective, which highlights the interaction between technological development and organizational processes and concerns. The aim of the fellowship is to contribute original knowledge and valuable insights into this dynamic relationship going beyond mere technological promises and managerial visions when it comes to digital transformation. More specific, the fellowship will focus on digital workplace transformation and seek to examine the interplay between work practices and digital transformation, and how this can be facilitated and managed. Central topics of investigation will include digital transformation, use of artificial intelligence (AI), user agency and empowerment, digital workplace and work, new ways of working, and other related topics. The PhD candidate is expected to conduct in-depth empirical investigations into development, implementation, and/or use of digital technologies in specific organizations. The fellowship's primary research strategy will involve qualitative empirical methods, such as interviews, focus groups and observations. For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree. Your immediate leader will be the group leader of AIT. Duties of the position • Complete the doctoral education until obtaining a doctorate • Plan and conduct empirical research in organizations under supervision • Take lead in writing research papers under supervision • Comply with the PhD training program of the Faculty • Be part of and contribute to the local research group Be prepared for changes to your work duties after employment. Required selection criteria • You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty´s doctoral program , see Section 6-1 of the PhD regulations for more information. • You must have a relevant Master's degree in information systems, or in management, organization theory, sociology, or science and technology studies with particular emphasis on digitalization.  • You must have a strong and relevant academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master's degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale . If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you have a weaker academic background, you may be considered if you can document that you are exceptionally suited for a PhD education, for example through relevant work experience and/or peer-reviewed academic works.   The appointment is to be made in accordance with  NTNUs guidelines for recruitment positions for general criteria for the position. We have a number of  measures to promote equality.  Salary and conditions In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 580 000,-per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.  The total employment period is 4 years, 3 of which is for the doctoral work, and 1 for the career promoting work.  For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD programme in Computer Science within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral programme throughout the period of employment. As an employee at NTNU, it is important that you keep yourself up to date with academic and organizational changes and adapt to them. For the necessary professional and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis. The appointment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act , and Export control (legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology and services).
